My name is Ammar Saleh. I am a student from Kuwait , I'm currently living in Dublin. I have had an interest in photography since my early teenage years. Photography has been a passion of mine for a long time now, and the camera has rarely left my side.


The beauty of photography is that its a medium that allows one to both capture and to tell. To capture a fleeting moment, one that would have been lost in the eternity of time, and preserve it for the impact it will cause for generations to come.


I am currently studying Film Studies in Dublin Business School as a first year student. As part of our Understanding The Image class, we were required to submit a proposal for our choice in topic for a photography book project.


It is my wish to work on a project focusing on the people who have worked and lived in this world for generations and have seen the world spins and have witnessed the change from the rough life to the easy one we're living right now.


My project is going to be portraits of elderly people. I chose this project because I've always loved these photos. Each image tells a tale. Of how much they suffered, cried and mourned. Of how they smiled, laughed and danced. Of yesteryears and the passage of time. The wrinkles on those faces tell you that and much more. I will not be asking them to smile or nor will I give any other instructions, as i want the photos to be as natural as possible.
This project will take place mostly in Dublin but some of the photos will also be taken in Kuwait when I go back during the Christmas holiday.


Informed consent from the subjects will be obtained prior to any photos being taken. The photos will be a range from close-ups to wide shots. And the majority of them will be taken during the daytime in order to have a nice natural light. I am considering taking the majority of photos in monochrome "Black and White". The duration of this project will be about four months. Starting from November 2013 to March 2014. I aim to take as many photos as possible during this time frame and then chose the best photos to use in my photography book. As for the camera I will be using my Canon DSLR for this project.
